A Long, Narrow City With Many Markets

Scottsdale runs about 31 miles north to south along the east side of the Phoenix metro. It borders Phoenix and Paradise Valley to the west, Tempe to the south, and the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community and Fountain Hills to the east.

Because the city is so long, "the Scottsdale market" is really several markets. South Scottsdale has many mid-century ranch homes and condos, central Scottsdale is dominated by 1970s and 1980s master-planned communities, and North Scottsdale is known for newer desert and golf communities.

Scottsdale ZIP Codes

Scottsdale mailing addresses use ZIP codes in the 85250 to 85262 range, plus 85266 in the far north. Neighboring ZIPs can blur the lines: many homes in 85254 have a Scottsdale mailing address but sit in the City of Phoenix, and 85253 is mainly the Town of Paradise Valley. A Scottsdale mailing address does not always mean the home is inside Scottsdale city limits. We confirm the jurisdiction for every property, because it affects city services and taxes.

School Districts

Most of the city is served by Scottsdale Unified School District. Parts of north and northwest Scottsdale fall within Paradise Valley Unified School District, and some far-north areas are in Cave Creek Unified School District. Boundaries do not follow ZIP codes, so we check the assigned schools for each address with the district directly.
